Thermodynamic principles for topology optimization

Thermodynamic principles are widely used for material modeling. Interestingly, very same principles allow also for topology optimization. Thus, inclusion of material non-linearities can be added to the process of topology optimization in a straight forward way. In our talk, we present the fundamental idea, discuss effective algorithmic treatments and show solutions for several boundary value problems for isotropic and anisotropic as well as tension/compression sensitive materials.
